We have an all-new experience prepared for our audience!

The Calgary Underground Film Festival is proud to present a live stage reading of local writer A.J Demers’ new - film noir - feature film script, KERN COUNTY. The event will take place at The Palomino Smokehouse.

Following the reading will be an open audience discussion of the screenplay moderated by Director Gary Burns (KITCHEN PARTY, WAYDOWNTOWN, RADIANT CITY).

This is free to attend!

Synopsis:

When Charlie, a burnt out alcoholic journalist, moves from L.A. to a small town to rebuild his life, his quest for peace is interrupted when he discovers the mummified corpse of a young girl hidden in the walls of his new home. The local sheriff and his deputies seem uninterested in solving the young girl's murder, leading Charlie into an investigation of his own to solve the crime and give him and his daughter a fresh start. Charlie is thrust up against a dark secret that lies at the centre of the sweet little town - a secret no one is interested in uncovering and that secret will endanger the lives of both him and his daughter.

AJ Demers Bio:

AJ Demers is an award winning Calgary-based writer, performer and director. He has improvised world wide for the past 23 performing in thousands of improv shows. AJ wrote and performed 100 episodes of "The Spin" an award-winning news satire segment for City T.V Calgary. 2012 saw the completion of "The Troupe", a half hour comedy pilot, for Insurrection Films that was co written by A.J. and Jason Long. A.J is currently working on several theatre plays and is in development on three features, Whimsy State, a true Canadian fishing story, a noir mystery, Kern County and a punk rock drama titled RUST. Upcoming in 2014 A.J. is excited to graduate from UBC's Creative Writing MFA and will direct his second short film.
